Executive Committee decides to organise major events in conjunction with the commemoration of CCA’s Platinum Jubilee in 2027

Programme Review and Programme Direction

Two key deliberative sessions during the 15th CCA General Assembly are the Programme Review and Programme Direction sessions.

The Programme Review and Programme Direction sessions will both be conducted in three groups relating to the CCA’s programme areas, namely, (i) General Secretariat (GS), (ii) Mission in Unity and Contextual Theology (MU) and Ecumenical Leadership Formation and Spirituality (EF); and (iii) Building Peace and Moving Beyond Conflicts (BP) and Prophetic Diakonia (PD).

Assembly participants will have the option to join one of three groups for both the Programme Review and Programme Direction sessions. For the sake of coherence, the assigned group will remain the same for both sessions.

General Secretariat

The General Secretariat oversees the coordination of programmatic, administrative, and financial activities of the organization. The GS comprises various departments such as church and ecumenical relations, relations with ecumenical partners, finance, administration, and communications, which provide crucial support and services for the implementation of programs and contribute to the overall functioning of the CCA.

Mission in Unity and Contextual Theology (MU) and Ecumenical Leadership Formation and Spirituality (EF)

Building Peace and Moving Beyond Conflicts (BP) and Prophetic Diakonia and Advocacy (PD)

CCA Executive Committee Meeting - 2025

Chiang Mai, Thailand: The Executive Committee of the Christian Conference of Asia (CCA) has decided to organise the commemoration of the Platinum Jubilee of CCA in 2027 and has planned major programmes in conjunction with the Platinum Jubilee celebrations including an Asia Mission Conference (AMC) and the Congress of Asian Theologians (CATS-XI).

The AMC and the CATS-XI will be organised in 2027 as part of a series of programmes leading up to the Platinum Jubilee commemoration and thanksgiving, marking 70 years since CCA’s founding.

The CATS-XI, AMC, and commemoration of the Platinum Jubilee of CCA will be held from 21 to 27 April 2027.

A Planning Committee with seven members was constituted by the Executive Committee to prepare for the major programmes in 2027. Details about the venue of the AMC and related events will be announced in due course.

According to CCA General Secretary Dr Mathews George Chunakara, the founding conference of the EACC in 1957, the forerunner of CCA, was itself an Asia Mission Conference with the theme “Our Common Evangelistic Tasks in Asia”.

In its history, CCA has organised four AMCs so far: 1957 (Prapat, Indonesia), 1989 (Cipayung, Indonesia), 1994 (Seoul, South Korea), and in 2017 (Yangon, Myanmar) which was held in conjunction with the Diamond Jubilee of CCA. Another AMC, after a 10-year interval, will be a breakthrough and new milestone in the history of the ecumenical movement in Asia, added the CCA General Secretary during the presentation of his report to the Executive Committee.

The Executive Committee also decided to schedule the 16th General Assembly in 2029 instead of 2028, which will allow sufficient time for appropriate planning as several major events will be held in 2027.

The Executive Committee approved the General Secretary’s proposal to initiate two key projects to systemise administrative structures more efficiently, such as the digitisation of CCA’s historical documents, publications, and photographs, and the centralisation of core administrative functions through an Enterprise Planning System (ERP). The ERP system would help bring all data into one platform, improving communication and coordination, and also serve as a platform for efficient planning and implementation of all activities in various programme areas.

In addition to electing a new General Secretary who will assume responsibilities in June 2026 for a five-year term, the Personnel Committee and the Executive Committee decided to appoint three new Programme Coordinators for a four-year term starting 1 January 2026. The newly appointed Programme Coordinators are Arceli P. Bile (Ecumenical Leadership Formation), John Paul Devakumar (Mission in Unity), and Navya Dinah Saji (Communications and Publications).

The Executive Committee also decided to commission the writing of the history of CCA, covering its life and witness over the past seventy years, which would be published in 2027 during the Platinum Jubilee.

The next meeting of the Executive Committee will be held from 2 to 5 June 2026 in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The Executive Committee finalised the schedule for the installation and handing over of responsibilities from the incumbent General Secretary to the incoming General Secretary on 5 June 2026. A farewell for the outgoing General Secretary will also be held during the next Executive Committee meeting.
