Regional capacity building programme for increasing Asian youth participation in HIV Advocacy to begin
Chiang Mai, Thailand: A regional capacity building programme with focus on strengthening the voices of Asian youth for HIV Advocacy will begin on 29 July, 2024 in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
The three-day regional training is part of the Christian Conference of Asia’s (CCA) ongoing special programme, the Action Together in Combating HIV and AIDS in Asia (ATCHAA), and will be attended by more than 70 young people from across Asia.
The capacity building initiative will also be a platform to share best practices across Asia and develop the capacity for effective engagement in HIV advocacy by youth.
The CCA recognises the crucial role young individuals play in driving positive change in HIV prevention and treatment efforts.
“Youth-led advocacy initiatives have the potential to challenge stigma, discrimination, and harmful norms, fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment for those affected by HIV. This training reiterates CCA’s commitment to empower and equip youth to advocate for HIV awareness and prevention, and aims to strengthen the voices of young people, which is imperative to achieve a healthy society”, said Dr Ronald Lalthanmawia, ATCHAA Programme Coordinator.
The CCA has been equipping its member churches and councils to respond effectively to HIV and AIDS issues for nearly two decades. Various programmes at different national and sub-regional levels initiated by CCA have proved beneficial in building capacities to advance the mission of combating HIV and AIDS.
