CCA calls for de-escalation of conflicts and dialogue between India-Pakistan

Chiang Mai, Thailand: The Christian Conference of Asia (CCA) expressed deep concern over the escalation of conflicts between India and Pakistan following a deadly terrorist attack in Indian-administered Kashmir and subsequent retaliatory strikes.
On 22 April 2025, a terror attack near Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir, India, claimed the lives of twenty-six people, including several tourists. In response, the Indian military launched targeted strikes across the Line of Control (LoC) on 7 May 2025, citing the presence of militant infrastructure in Pakistan-administered territory.
CCA General Secretary Dr Mathews George Chunakara, stated, “CCA is deeply concerned about the impact of any further escalation, particularly the risk of war in a region where millions of civilians already live in vulnerable conditions on both sides of the border. The possession of nuclear weapons by both India and Pakistan causes fear and anxiety, as each act of aggression risks becoming a flashpoint for catastrophic consequences with implications extending well beyond the subcontinent.”
“CCA urges the governments of both nations to return to the path of peaceful dialogue, uphold their responsibility to protect life and dignity of everyone across the borders, and ensure that people are not made to suffer in the crossfire of political or military agendas. In this critical moment, restraint, wisdom, and a shared commitment to humanity must prevail”, stated the CCA General Secretary.
